Description

Duet 3 1HCL extension 

is an expansion board connected to the CAN-FD. The board has a number of inputs and outputs for peripheral devices for functions such as motor temperature detection, brake and axle limiter control.

The Duet3 1HCL connects to the Duet 3 CAN-FD bus via RJ11 connectors (the same as the Duet 3 6HC motherboard, Duet 3 expansion cards and tool dashboard). Multiple 1HCL cards can be connected in series on the bus, with power (up to 48 V) supplied locally. This allows very large machines to be constructed without significant cabling burden and signal integrity issues.

Technical specifications

  • Processor: ARM Cortex-M4F microcontroller running at 120 MHz
  • Stepper drivers: TMC2160A stepper driver: controlled by SPI, can operate in open or closed loop mode.
  • Maximum motor current 6.3 A peak per phase (4.45 A RMS)
  • Connectivity: RJ11 CAN In and CAN Out connectors for connection to Duet 3 CAN-FD bus 
  • Outputs: Two medium current (recommended 2.5A max) outputs for VIN or VBRAKE voltage with PWM capability and built-in flyback diodes: out0 , out1 .  Optionally provide a VBRAKE with a different voltage to VIN to allow (for example) stepper motor actuation at 48 V and brake actuation at 24 V. It is worth noting that the flyback diodes are connected to the voltage used (VBRAKE or VIN as selected)
  • Inputs and outputs: Two PWM outputs at 3.3 V (max. 3 mA), via 470R series resistor: io0.out, io1.out, Two digital inputs with fixed 27 K pull-up resistors, surge protected: io0.in, io1.in
  • Temperature input One thermistor/PT1000 input: temp0. This is to enable monitoring of the motor temperature (possibly coupling to a cooling system controlled by one of the outputs)
