The Nova SDS011 sensor appears to be the cheapest and best choice. Numerous individual projects as well as citizen initiatives, such as luftdaten.info and OpenSenseMap, have been developed based on this sensor.
Recently, we were asked to supply components for sensors configured according to the luftdaten.info project. This initiative caught our interest, so we decided to build our own sensor and connect it to the global OpenSenseMap network.
So, how can you measure air quality in your area?
Step 1 – Purchasing components
I used the BME280 sensor, which I had lying around in my cabinet. For the sensor housing, I found this project to be a great fit.
Step 2 – Building the sensor
The easiest way is to follow the ready-made “recipe” for the sensor created by the luftdaten.info team and connect it to the global OpenSenseMap network.
Step 3 – Share the knowledge
Let your friends know how easy it is to build an air quality sensor!
